225 VALENCIA STREET

225 Valencia Street is a beautiful 17,000 square foot, 3-level, stand-alone building.
It is just 2 blocks away from our current and previous locations here in the historic Lesbian Corridor and the American Indian Cultural District in the Mission.

Building History

The building itself served as the American Indian Cultural Center (AICC) from 1969-1988 and was founded by a Queer Indigenous Woman. The original mural alongside the Clinton Park side of the building was painted by Gary McGill, Sherly Graves, and Barbra Cameron. Barbara was a Hunkpapa Lakota lesbian, Two-Spirit leader, and HIV/AIDS activist and organizer in San Fransisco’s Native communities, originally from the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. Cameron co-founded Gay American Indians with Randy Burns.

We are excited about the possibility of reclaiming the space for our LBTQIA+ BIPOC communities in partnership with AICC, BAAITS, and United to Save the Mission. Together, we will be identifying a Queer Indigenous artist to paint a new mural along the south-facing facade.
